Frost Cloth: Protecting crops from birds

Frost ECape Spekboom0 (002)

This winter, our newly stocked Frost Cloth rolls found their way across the country to be used for varied applications other than for frost protection.

Protecting your crops from wild bird predation

A Midrand farmer successfully kept doves, rabbits and guineafowl off his cabbage and spinach seedlings by covering the seedlings with the frost cloth. Together, we worked out a solution where row tunnels were made with PVC piping hooped over the rows with the frost cloth pulled over the hoops. This enabled the watering and fertilising of the crops while keeping the predators out.

Small plant protection

Spekboom farming in the Eastern Cape – a farmer needed to protected his very young spekboom plants from the frost, so successfully constructed mini tents over his spekboom gardens. He sent us some photos to show us how he managed that successfully.

Sports pitches and turf

Sport grounds maintenance businesses bought our frost cloth to lay over the sports fields in order to save the grass from the winter frost.
